From the Vault (Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid “Grim Reaper” )

With October 31 around the corner, there are a myriad of noteworthy, Halloween-inspired sneakers. At the forefront of that collection, however, stands the Off-White x Nike Blazer Mid “Grim Reaper.” 

Outfitted in a mainly black and white colour scheme, the “Grim Reaper” Blazer draws cues from the black and white cloak of death itself. An extension of Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten” collection, the Halloween-inspired shoe released in October 2018 and retailed for $130 USD. 

The upper combines a dark grey mesh, as well as black leather, suede, and exposed foam. On oversized White swoosh extends from the upper of the shoe and overtop the black midsole, which helps add to the deconstructed aesthetic seen on most of Abloh’s designs. 

The sneaker also features Off-White’s infamous branding printed on the medial side, as well as an orange square tag and accent stitching on the tongue. 

What some people may not know about Abloh’s design process, however, is that most designs for “The Ten” were created through a “breakneck schedule.” 

“Most of the creative decisions were made in the first three hours, while actual design and iteration took two to three days,” Abloh says in a release. “The Jordan 1 was done in one design session.” 

“I work in a very dream-like state,” he notes. “I see it, and it's done.”
